Topics/Call fo Papers

Among the key trends accelerating technology adoption in higher education, “redesign learning spaces”, “blended learning designs”, “collaborative learning” and “deeper learning approaches” are considered the most important ones. These trends mostly focus on rearranging and enriching physical environments to accommodate new forms of active learning, supporting students or educators working together in peer-to-peer or group activities, blending different and heterogeneous learning activities (both formal and informal) and making clear connections between courseworks and real worlds in order to foster motivation in learners. The aforementioned aspects converge toward the definition of new innovative ecosystems in which environments, agents (e.g., learners, teachers, automatic/human tutors), devices (e.g., mobile, wearable, etc.), sensors/actuators should interoperate seamlessly. Semantic Web technologies provide models, languages, tools to technologically enable such ecosystems. Smart Cities represent an example of these ecosystems.
The organizers of this track encourage researchers to submit papers dealing with the following topics (but also additional ones):
1. Defining ontologies and other Semantic Web artefacts to formally model learning ecosystems
Applying of Semantic Web technologies for aligning activities and handle continuity across different learning environments
2. Building Teams of interacting Intelligent Tutors by using Semantic Web technologies
3. Business Models for Semantic Web technologies in Education
4. Bridging physical and digital worlds in learning environments by means of Semantic Web technologies
5. Applying Semantic Web technologies to support the recognition of learning situations
6. Extending and integrating SSN (Semantic Sensor Network) Ontology and other semantic models to provide interoperability and integration layers for new learning ecosystems.
7. Exploiting Social Linked Data to foster learning experiences.
8. Adopting Semantic Web technologies to develop dashboards for decision makers in learning ecosystems.
9. Applying Semantic Web technologies to define active, deeper, blended and collaborative learning experiences.
10. Enhancing security and privacy in semantic-enabled learning ecosystems.
