Scope
Wireless networks are expected to encompass heterogeneous access technologies and the Internet backbone
for providing services to both mobile and stationary users. The Wireless Networks Symposium will focus on
topics related to all aspects of PHY/MAC layer, Network layer, Transport layer, as well as Cross-layer. The
objective of this symposium is to serve as an international forum for experts from academia, industry and
government to exchange ideas and results on research and development, and to promote and accelerate
standardization and services of current and future wireless networks. This symposium presents original
contributions in, but not limited to, the following topical areas:

Short biography of co-chairs
Jun Li
Jun Li received his Ph.D. degree from the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Carleton University,
Canada, in 2008. Dr. Li joined the Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC) in 2009 and has
been a research scientist at CRC since then. He has published more than forty conference and journal
papers. His research interests include wireless network protocol design, modeling/analysis/simulation
for wireless (mobile) networks, and communication network performance evaluation/optimization. Dr.
Li is a member of the technical program committees of many international conferences including IEEE
ICC, IEEE GLOBECOM, IEEE WCNC, IEEE ICCCN and MILCOM. He serves as Publication Chair
on the International Conference on Ad Hoc Networks (ADHOCNETS 2012, 2013) and as Symposium
Co-Chair of the Network Algorithms and Performance Evaluation symposium on the second
International Conference on Computing, Networking, and Communications (ICNC'2013). He is a
Senior Member of IEEE serving as Vice Chair of the Joint Chapter of Signal Processing, Oceanic
Engineering, and Geoscience and Remote Sensing (SP/OE/GRS) of the IEEE Ottawa Section.
Yan Xin
Yan Xin received the B.E. degree in electronics engineering from Beijing University of Technology,
Beijing, China, in 1992, the M. Sc. degree in mathematics, the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering,
and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 1998,
2000, and 2003, respectively. From 2004 to 2008, he was an assistant professor in the Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore. He was a research staff
member at NEC Laboratories America Inc., Princeton, New Jersey from 2008 to 2012. He is now with
Samsung Dallas Technology Laboratories, Richardson, Texas. His research interests include MIMO
Communications, Cognitive radio and network information theory. He received the 2004 IEEE
Marconi Prize Paper Award in wireless communications from IEEE Communications society.
Prof. Shaowei Wang
Shaowei Wang is an associate professor in the School of Electronic Science and Engineering at Nanjing
University (http://ese.nju.edu.cn/wangsw/). He received B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electronic
engineering from Wuhan University, China, in 1997, 2003, and 2006, respectively (with honors). From
1997 to 2001, he was a research scientist of China Telecom, China. He joined the School of Electronic
Science & Engineering at Nanjing University as an Assistant Professor in 2006, where he has been an
Associate Professor since 2008. He was with The University of British Columbia as a Visiting
Associate Professor, Canada, in the first half of 2012. From July 2012 to July 2013, he was/is with
Stanford University as a visiting scholar. His research interests are mainly in wireless communications & networks, optimization and machine learning. He served/s as the Publicity Co-Chair of the 17th/18th
IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC 2012/2013) , the Tutorial Co-Chair of the
3rd IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm2012) . He is a
guest editor of IEEE Wireless Communications magazine special issue on “Enhancing Spectral
Efficiency for LTE-Advanced and Beyond Cellular Networks”.
