SSPA 2015 - Symposium on Signal Processing Applications in Smart Buildings
Topics/Call fo Papers
Motivation: In recent years instrumentation and computing systems have been integrated to all aspects of modern life, from healthcare, to transportation and the infrastructure that supports the operation of urban areas. This proliferation has lead to an enormous increase in the number of sensor streams that need to be processed. Buildings are perhaps the application domain that best exemplifies this change. Just in the last 10 years, millions of smart meters have been deployed by utilities to monitor and control electric power delivery, hundreds of new products have come to the market to address comfort, efficiency and security in homes and commercial spaces, etc. Each one of these applications relies heavily on signal processing techniques to transform the raw signals into useful information. Yet, despite the opportunities and the number of researchers working in this area, there are very few venues dedicated to discussing academic progress in this space. This symposium seeks to fill that gap and provide a forum for researchers to exchange novel approaches and problems related to the application of signal processing in smart buildings. Our hope is that the Signal Processing community gets familiarized with the many opportunities in buildings, and that the buildings community can learn more about the technical solutions that the signal processing community can provide.
Submission of Papers: Prospective authors are invited to submit full-length papers, with up to four pages for technical content including figures and possible references, and with one additional optional 5 th page containing only references. Manuscripts should be original (not submitted/published anywhere else) and written in accordance with the standard IEEE double-column paper template. All paper submissions should be carried out through EDAS system (http://edas.info). A selection of best papers and best student papers will be made by the GlobalSIP 2015 best paper award committee upon recommendations from Technical Committees.
Notice: The IEEE Signal Processing Society enforces a “no-show” policy. Any accepted paper included in the final program is expected to have at least one author or qualified proxy attend and present the paper at the conference. Authors of the accepted papers included in the final program who do not attend the conference will be subscribed to a “No-Show List”, compiled by the Society. The “no-show” papers will not be published by IEEE on IEEEXplore or other public access forums, but these papers will be distributed as part of the on-site electronic proceedings and the copyright of these papers will belong to the IEEE.
Topical Areas:
We seek papers in the following topical areas, though this is not an exhaustive list:
????? Indoor Localization??????????? Pipeline Defect Detection
????? Occupancy Estimation???????? ? Energy/Water Disaggregation
????? Fault Detection & Diagnosis (FDD) for? ? Structural Health Monitoring
???? Building Automation Systems????? ? Indoor Security/Surveillance
