The 2014 international conference of AIESEC, the world's largest student organization, will be held in Taiwan, the Taiwan chapter of AIESEC said Sunday, adding that it hopes the event will allow more of the world's young people to learn about the country.
Tsai Meng-hsiu, chairman of the organizing committee for next year's conference, said Taiwan spared no effort in winning approval to hold the annual meet.
The successful bid, which follows two previous failed attempts, shows Taiwan's spirit of persistence, said Tsai, adding that he hopes participants in next year's conference will appreciate the passion and hospitality of the Taiwanese people.
AIESEC was founded in 1948 as the International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences, but its members come from a variety of majors, many of which are unrelated to the study of economics and commerce.
As of 2012, the AIESEC network includes over 86,000 members in 124 countries and territories. It is the largest student-run organization in the world with a presence at over 2,400 universities. The organization is based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
