KWSA 2013 - Tutorial on Kinect for Windows in Science Applications
Topics/Call fo Papers
Kinect for Windows gives computers eyes, ears, and the capacity to use them. With Kinect for Windows, thousands of businesses and researchers are creating applications that put people first?allowing users to interact naturally with computers by simply gesturing and speaking. This is an example of what we call a Natural User Interface (NUI). This session presents an introduction to programming with Kinect for Windows in the form of a short tutorial, followed by selected example applications in scientific applications. The tutorial will introduce, explore, and demonstrate the key features of the technology from a programmer’s perspective. The applications talk will showcase live demonstrations and/or multimedia.
60 minute short technical tutorial, showcasing the Kinect SDK (a full introductory tutorial is normally 2-3 hours in our experience).
30 mins overview of Kinect SDK applications in scientific scenarios, (a) as a NUI, human-computer interface; (b) as a sensor, e.g. 3D object scanner.
