The 2nd
IEEE Integrated STEM Education Conference (ISEC ’12)
TCNJ, Ewing, NJ, March 9, 2012
We welcome submissions for the 2nd
IEEE Integrated STEM Education Conference (ISEC ’12), which will be held Friday, 9 March 2012 starting at 10 am at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in Ewing, NJ.
This year’s theme is “Integrate by Design.” While all papers on methods of and experience with integrating education (or interdisciplinary education) in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are welcome, we are very interested in papers on the use of design activities to teach STEM issues and concepts.
“Design” is not limited to engineering or technical design activities; for example, experiences of those using art pedagogies to help students learn STEM concepts (or, as it’s being called, STEAM) would be appropriate.
We are also interested in hearing from all parties involved in STEM education, including students and parents. Papers discussing STEM education experiences, especially concerning best and worst practices, from those points of view, are encouraged. We would like to have a student, faculty, and parent track at this year’s conference.
Please submit a full paper of 3 ? 4 pages for review. Your paper should not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Please submit your paper to https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=isec12 by midnight Sunday, 5 February 2012. Please see the author’s kit for format information; the kit can be downloaded from http://ewh.ieee.org/conf/stem/isec_registration.ht.... Acceptances will be sent no later than Sunday, 12 February 2012. The deadline for submitting a revised paper is Wednesday, 29 February 2012. All accepted papers (after review by the committee) will be presented in oral sessions and included in the conference proceedings.
You will receive the following for the conference fee: admission to ISEC and its affiliated conferences, the Information Technology Professional Conference and Trenton Computer Festival; conference proceedings; and breakfast and lunch. The fee schedule is $125 for academic and industry attendees and $25 for parents, K-12 teachers (CEUs will be awarded), and K-20 students.
The Westin Element in Ewing is offering a special rate, $109/night, for ISEC attendees. The rate is valid from Thursday, 8 March ? Saturday, 10 March. Please make reservations by calling the hotel at 609.671.0050 or the Starwood reservations center at 877.353.6368 and ask to reserve under the ITPC/ISEC/TCF block. Rooms reserved after that date may or may not be at that rate, space permitting.
We are also extremely pleased and honored to have Suzanne Deffree and Naomi Price from EDN/EE Times and H. Vincent Poor, Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Princeton University as keynote speakers.
ISEC 2012 is sponsored by the IEEE Princeton/Central Jersey Section, with technical co-sponsorship by Region 1. Conference co-chairs are Susan Donohue (University of Virginia) and Ashutosh Dutta (NIKSUN). Program committee members include Allen Katz (TCNJ), Nagi Naganathan (LSI), and H.
