Internet of Things and other distributed technologies within the context of smart cities are the main responsible for the rapid increase of sensors and distributed processing units able to obtain large volume of data. Such data empowers citizens, governmental institutions and the modern industry to participate in societies within pervasive and smart eco-systems of services and computing devices. This vision of future society brings a number of exciting challenges for the relevant research community: from a design perspective, novel approaches to software engineering in such distributed systems have to be devised and discussed. On a technical point of view, problems arise on finding both scalable and suitable algorithms able to leverage the distributed computing power to be orchestrated within large-scale smart cities.
On a societal level, proper investigations on the impact of such a connected environment is mandatory. This workshop aims to bring together experts from both academia and the industry for developing fruitful discussions with respect to problems and solutions for future smart societies. Interesting and novel results,as well as work in progress or position papers are welcome.
