ETSI 2010 - ETSI Business Innovation Summit
Topics/Call fo Papers
Building on the success of the high-level discussion and debates at the inaugural ETSI Business Innovation Summit, Informa and ETSI are pleased to announce the 2nd annual conference, which is focusing upon ICT revolutionising the world of transport.
The need for improved mobility is generating a demand for more wireless devices and communications infrastructure tailored for mobility. These devices will be able to interface with all different modes of transport (road, rail, air and sea). Looking at this transport domain we face one of the biggest challenges of the next 10 years. As a response to these challenges, all sectors have to cooperate and develop sustainable ICT solutions that will lead to advances in alleviating traffic congestion, simplifying logistics, reducing fuel consumption, reducing carbon emissions and improving safety. Today we are just at the start of this challenge and it is clear that in the future ICT will revolutionise the whole world of transport creating a plethora of new business and revenue opportunities for the consumer electronics and telecommunications industries.
The ETSI Business Innovation Summit 2010 will feature a broad range of topics from the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) area. The primary focus will be ICT for transport infrastructure and vehicles and will cover topics such as:
? How to improve road safety reducing road accidents by extensive driver assistance
? How to reduce wear and tear, transportation times and fuel consumption
? How to deliver travel assistance, passenger information and multimodal transport
As such, the summit will address many new ICT research topics which have the potential to lead to future advanced solutions for the transport domain. The EU Digital Agenda has a strong focus on research activities which in particular address ICT research in the transport area. For example, European Commission support in the research on “talking” cars for safer and smarter mobility in Europe. Therefore this summit will expand beyond the common understanding of ITS and look at other innovative aspects important for the transport domain such as mobile broadband including LTE, on-board entertainment and the interoperability challenges of all these elements.
Building on the experience from last year’s event, the ETSI Business Innovation Summit 2010, offers an unmissable opportunity for high-level discussions and debates. This rapidly evolving area requires cross-section integration between the electronics, transport and telco industries. This is the only event that brings together R&D, strategy, innovation, business development and the standardisation community from these industries.
'' In a world of globalisation where energy for travel will be an increasingly scarce resource, new intelligent technologies will play a key role in any kind of future transportation. The ETSI BIS provides an excellent platform to meet and to discuss with high level participants how, with the help of standardization, these new technologies can be transformed from innovative ideas into compelling market solutions.” Walter Weigel, Director General, ETSI
