AMIA is pleased to invite you to submit proposals for papers, panels and abstract presentations for the 2nd annual AMIA Summit on Clinical Research Informatics (CRI). The CRI Summit will be held on March 9-11, 2011, at the Parc 55 Hotel in San Francisco, California, as part of the Joint Summits on Translational Science. Immediately preceding the CRI Summit, the Summit on Translational Bioinformatics Informatics (TBI) will take place at the same venue (March 7th-9th, 2011).

Over the past several years, the Clinical Research Informatics (CRI) community has experienced unparalleled growth and increased visibility across a spectrum from national-level policy and funding initiatives to individual investigators and trainees. With this rapid evolution has come an exciting and ever increasing body of foundational and applied CRI research and development that promise to dramatically impact the state of clinical research and ultimately human health. Given this exciting backdrop and building on the success of the 2010 Joint Summits on Translational Science, the 2011 AMIA Summit on Clinical Research Informatics is uniquely positioned to be the preeminent forum for investigators and practitioners to learn about and discuss the current and future state of CRI science, knowledge, education, and practice. The 2011 AMIA Summit on Clinical Research Informatics will provide attendees with a compelling combination of keynote presentations, scientific paper sessions, panels, poster sessions, and networking opportunities, all of which are intended to enable meeting participants to not only learn about the state-of-the-art in CRI innovation and applications, but also to engage with their colleagues and formulate new collaborations and dialogues.

Examples of informatics foci that will be included in the scientific program of 2011 AMIA Summit on Clinical Research Informatics include:

Novel methods and technologies for clinical study design and execution;
Data collection, integration, and analysis methods and platforms;
Explorations of people, organizational, and policy issues that affect the design and
adoption of informatics solutions in the clinical research environment; and
Approaches to the education of both informaticians and clinical investigators to provide for a CRI-literate clinical research workforce.
We anticipate that the summit will be a highly interactive forum, wherein participants will contribute their individual and unique experiences and insights to the discussions of the preceding foci, thus enhancing the depth and relevancy of the conference proceedings.

It is also extremely exciting that the 2011 AMIA Summit on Clinical Research Informatics will continue to be co-located with the 2011 AMIA Summit on Translational Bioinformatics. Given the increasing attention across government, academic, non-profit and private sectors on the integration of the basic and clinical sciences, these joint summits provide attendees with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore and participate in discussions and presentations concerning the application of informatics theories and methods across the entire translational spectrum.

We could not be more excited about this opportunity and look forward both to your submissions and seeing you in San Francisco in March of 2011!

Philip Payne, The Ohio State University
Chair, 2011 Scientific Program Committee
