2011 IEEE International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology - Due Dec 1

The IEEE Technical Committee on Sustainable Systems and Technology (formerly Electronics and the Environment) is pleased to announce the 2011 IEEE International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology from May 16-18, 2011 in Chicago, USA. The call for papers (CFP) is available at: http://ieee-issst.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?.... Abstracts are due December 1, 2010 and can be uploaded online.

This is the premier event for presenting and learning about environmental and sustainability topics as they pertain to the life cycle of engineered products, their applications, and society. This year will also feature a partnership with the Center for Sustainable Engineering for a 1.5 day workshop for engineering educators.

The 2011 program will feature the latest in environmental design, green manufacturing, emerging technologies, end of life management, information and communication technologies, sustainability education, and policy discussions from world leaders in industry, academia, consulting, and public policy areas. This year permits presenters an unprecedented range of publication options, including abstract-only, free-format full paper, and (as always) the IEEE archived, official conference paper format. A student paper competition will bestow prizes to top papers.

This year's event will also build on a highly successful poster session. The poster session is open to all symposium participants as an opportunity to share scholarly work as a visual display, even in its early stages, and to interact with colleagues and gather feedback. An element of the poster session will be a student poster competition honoring outstanding posters created and presented by students.

Cash prizes are awarded in both competitions after a review of entrants by a panel of judges. All participants in each competition receive gifts (first authors only).

The deadline for abstracts has been extended to December 1, 2010. Details for the conference, abstract submission, and student competitions are available at the conference website:http://ieee-issst.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?...

Immediately following the ISSST conference, there will be a workshop on Sustainable Engineering education at the university level. The workshop will address concepts in sustainable engineering, metrics and tools in sustainable engineering, ways to incorporate these concepts and tools into courses, and discussions of what engineering schools across the country are doing to enhance the sustainable engineering content of their courses and curricula. The workshop will begin at 1:00 pm Wednesday May 18 and end by 4:00 pm Thursday May 19.

We look forward to receiving your paper, and to seeing you in Chicago!
