ENC 2016 - 2016 European Navigation Conference
Topics/Call fo Papers
On behalf of the Nordic Institute of Navigation and the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute of the National Land Survey of Finland it is my pleasure to invite you to Helsinki for the 2016 European Navigation Conference. ENC 2016 is the twenty-fourth conference in the series organized annually by the European Group of Institutes of Navigation. In this edition of ENC the focus will be on innovations in positioning, navigation and timing technologies and applications at land, sea and air. Topic areas include GNSS positioning, indoor and urban navigation and position based applications. Furthermore, it promises to be a unique networking event for all participants from academia, the public sector and industry.
Finland is one of the most innovative countries in the World. So, why should ENC 2016 not be the same? For the first time, we have also included innovative technical topics such as navigation challenges in the Arctic and positioning solutions using geospatial big-data. ENC is Europe’s premier navigation conference and is known for its high standard of research publications, as well as its technical and scientific character. ENC 2016 will introduce cooperation for the first time with the Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society of IEEE. This means for the first time we have scientific tracks with full-paper peer-review and accepted papers will be published in the IEEE Xplore database! ENC 2016 will also support traditional abstract review for its industry tracks, where accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
Navigation is one of the most used features in modern mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and car navigators. Positioning is furthermore crucial in various professional applications in e.g. aviation, construction, mining, maritime and land transportation. Navigation, location-based services and smart spaces represent a significant industry sector, including GNSS-based industrial instrument manufacturers, indoor localization and location-based services. In ENC 2016, the implementation of latest technologies in navigation will be illustrated through an industry exhibition, co-located with the conference.
We are very excited to bring the ENC to Finland for the first time - to its capital, Helsinki. Helsinki, with a population of around 600 000, is known for its maritime appeal, architecture and contemporary design, interesting food culture, lively events, fresh air and summer nature in parks and other green areas, 450-year-old history, and of course its urban sauna culture. The social programme of ENC 2016 will showcase everything Helsinki has to offer making this a conference you will not soon forget!
