Topics/Call fo Papers
With technological advancements, there have been major changes in how people carry out their activities and how they interact with each other. These changes in turn have led to significant changes in the economic, social, cultural and environmental systems in today’s world. The study of human dynamics has been a major focus in geographic research for ages. With the astonishing technological transformations taking place now, it is an imperative to improve our understanding of human dynamics in order to help tackle the multiple challenges ranging from climate change, public health, traffic congestion, to economic issues, social movements, and cultural conflicts, etc.
Following five well-attended “Human Dynamics in the Mobile Age” paper sessions at 2015 AAG annual meeting in Chicago, we would like to broaden the scope and organize a “Symposium on Human Dynamics Research” at 2016 AAG annual meeting in San Francisco to engage researchers with interests in different aspects of human dynamics research. We welcome people to propose and organize specific paper and/or panel sessions on various topics related to human dynamics to be part of this “Symposium on Human Dynamics Research” at 2016 AAG annual meeting. Below are some example topics for paper sessions of this symposium. You are welcome to propose additional sessions.
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Theoretical Perspectives (Contact person: Daniel Sui, sui.10-AT-osu.edu)
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Time and Timing in Everyday Life (Contact person: Kajsa Ellegård, kajsa.ellegard-AT-liu.se)
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Space-Time Analytics (Contact person: May Yuan, myuan-AT-utdallas.edu)
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Events and Change (Contact person: Kathleen Stewart, stewartk-AT-umd.edu)
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Social Media and Big Data (Contact person: Ming-Hsiang Tsou, mtsou-AT-mail.sdsu.edu)
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Modeling Human Dynamics (Contact person: Paul Torrens, ptorrens-AT-umd.edu)
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Visualization and Analytical Tool Development (Contact person: Xinyue Ye, xye5-AT-kent.edu)
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Public Health (Contact person: Harvey Miller, miller.81-AT-osu.edu)
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Smart City and Urban Research Frontiers (Contact Person: Shaowen Wang, shaowen-AT-illinois.edu)
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Privacy Issues
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Social and Cultural Issues
Symposium on Human Dynamics Research: Climate Change
Additional sessions with a theme related to human dynamics research
Please email the contact person of the sessions listed above if you are interested in giving a paper in a particular session. We welcome proposals for additional paper/panel sessions related to human dynamics research. Please email a description of your proposed session(s) to Shih-Lung Shaw (sshaw-AT-utk.edu) by September 20, 2015 to be included in this “Symposium on Human Dynamics Research” at 2016 AAG Annual Meeting. Each session organizer will handle the call for presentations and coordinate abstract submissions among the presenters in his/her session(s). Each session organizer then will email the title, abstract and PIN of papers in each proposed session to Shih-Lung Shaw at least one week before the AAG abstract submission deadline so that we can work with the AAG office to minimize schedule conflicts among the sessions of this symposium.
For general questions about this symposium, please email Shih-Lung Shaw at sshaw-AT-utk.edu.
