WiML 2015 - 10th Workshop for Women in Machine Learning (WiML)
Topics/Call fo Papers
10th Workshop for Women in Machine Learning (WiML). The workshop will once again be co-located with the Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference, and will be held in December 2015 in Montreal, Canada. Organizing the workshop is a great opportunity to:
Make connections with senior researchers, major companies, and your peers
Bring new graduate students into the larger community
Expand the network of women in machine learning
A prospective organizer should be a female PhD student or postdoc actively involved in machine learning research.
We invite interested women to complete the following application form by February 13, 2015: http://goo.gl/forms/XUOhdZqlqI
Four organizers will be selected with each organizer in charge of particular aspects of the workshop (see below descriptions). Joint responsibilities will include:
? Selecting invited speakers
? Overseeing submission of abstracts
? Reviewing abstracts and working with the program committee to select presenters
? Maintaining the workshop website
? Making arrangements with the workshop venue
? Publicizing the event
? Seeking funding from relevant sponsors
? Attending to financial aspects, such as reimbursing sponsored participants
? Organizing mentoring program
The Connection Chair manages the WiML workshop presence online, by creating content for the website and adding posts to both the Facebook page and Google Group. This chair also keeps the WiML organizers connected to each other during the planning process. The Connection chair is in charge of all logistics for the WiML organizer meetings, including creating the agendas, and taking minutes.
The Program Chair is in charge of selecting and communicating with invited speakers, student speakers, and poster presenters. This chair runs the mentoring program including recruiting mentors, matching mentors with mentees, and organizing the logistics of mentoring sessions during the workshop. The Program chair organizes registration, designs the exit survey, and prepares materials such as nametags, programs, and workshop packages.
The Finance & Sponsorship Chair will coordinate all fundraising efforts, including assigning the accounts to the WiML organizers, writing a base letter of funds solicitation, writing a description of the workshop, and writing a base thank you letter. This chair is in charge of providing information to major donors regarding our tax status and filling out the appropriate vendor forms (if required) to receive funds. The Fundraising chair is responsible for following up on all funding throughout the process from outreach to the greater WiML community, encouraging organizers to follow up on leads, tracking the progress of donations, and ensuring that promised funds are delivered and recorded.
The Events & Logistic Chair is responsible for coordinating with the NIPS organizers and the staff in charge of all catering, physical space and media assets (projectors, microphones, poster boards). This chair makes sure that all WIML events’ schedules are in concert with NIPS events and that all physical space is ready and appropriate for the event. The Events & Logistic chair should be prepared to arrive early to the event, synchronize with the NIPS coordinator and convention center catering/space management and also to inspect the space and make sure all logistics are feasible, all signs and banners are correct and that placement is correct and also that all necessary media is available and working.
