ICBRDS 2015 - International Conference on Building Resilience and Developing Sustainability
Topics/Call fo Papers
The University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB), through its Cordillera Studies Center (CSC), with support from the Japan Foundation, University of the Philippines Office of Institutional Linkages, and the United Nations World Food Programme, will hold the 2015 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BUILDING RESILIENCE AND DEVELOPING SUSTAINABILITY on 14-17 January 2015 in Baguio City, Philippines. With the conference theme “Best Practices in Disaster Prevention, Reconstruction and Restoration, and Community Redevelopment,” the four-day event aims to bring together international experts, academics, policymakers, students, and representatives of non-government organizations (NGOs), local communities, and donor agencies for the sharing of “best practices” and the latest technologies in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), promoting sustainable (re)development, advancing sustainability science, and building resilient communities, particularly in upland areas like those found in the Cordillera and Northern Luzon, Philippines.
The conference will pay attention to disasters that mostly affect archipelagic typhoon-prone and earthquake-prone territories like the Philippines and Japan. It will highlight lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, the Luzon Earthquake of 1990, the Bohol Earthquake and Typhoon Haiyan/”Yolanda” of 2013, in addition to focusing on best practices and innovative technologies in the areas of DRRM, sustainability science, and sustainable development emanating from Japan, the Philippines, and other parts of the world. Japan-based DRRM and sustainability science practitioners will be invited to the conference to share their experiences and expertise.
The conference seeks to produce a publication dedicated to best practices and latest innovations in DRRM and sustainability science; provide the impetus for the establishment of a multinational network of DRRM and sustainability science experts, advocates, and practitioners; and, secure the commitment of potential partners in disseminating and sharing science-informed practices and technologies in the region.
