2014 - Overcoming Illogic in Safety Decision Making
Date2014-06-06
Deadline2014-06-06
VenueVirtual Webinar, USA - United States
KeywordsSafety decision making; Risk Analysis; System safety
Topics/Call fo Papers
Instructor: Michael Allocco
Description:
Decision makers will make inappropriate decisions that can adversely affect the product, process, procedure or system. Consequently uncontrolled risks may be introduced due to poor decisions throughout the life cycle of the system and potential system accident.
Safety professionals work in imperfect entities, and they may send excessive time and resources attempting to meet an inappropriate program objective and/or fixing an inadequate complex design, or an existing process, project, or facility. This may be due to poor initial decisions. Consider that the decision-makers may not have understood safety axioms. We will discuss the safety axioms we should apply when making safety-related decisions. Also, what follows is a discussion of some common statements that may reflect a limited background, knowledge, experience, attitude, perception, misguidance or arrogance, along with counter statements that support a more logical safety-related argument.
Why Should you Attend:
Any professional who is responsible for making decisions that may inadvertently have an adverse effect on a product, process, procedure or system; considering that the human is an integrated element of the system.
Objectives of the Presentation:
Terms associated with risk management: system risks, concepts related to decision theory associated with risk-based decisions. Common pitfalls, mistakes made and poor assumptions applied while making safety-related decisions.
Who can Benefit:
Participants should be able to enhance their understanding of safety axioms to enable appropriate safety-related risk based decision making,as well as
Safety personnel
