HISTART 2014 - History of Art Conference
Topics/Call fo Papers
Society and its effects on the art and on important turn points in the history of art has always been one of the major discussions of the history of art. Conference aims to create an interdisciplinary conversation on the role of the arts in society and will address a range of critically important issues and themes relating to the arts in society. Art institutions, economic status of the artist, introduction of art to various social classes, financial support for art, sponsorship and censorship are some of the mean subtopics of this correlation. The very same situation also serves as the venue where the art intervenes the politics. Countless situations where the artist supports or develops a particular critical position against the political power can be easily evaluated among the internal components of the artistic work.
At a larger scale, there is a more direct relation in between the ideological structures with artistic works which can be observed at every example. From daily life to the fashion, from new technologies to moral value judgments, from daily worries to the life itself, the structures of the artistic subject and the ideological structures of the society can be observed as layers nested with artistic expressions.
The perceivable existence of the political situation and the ideological structures and the positive or negative attitude towards these which is reproduced by the artist in the artistic works are among main components of the identity of the artist. Stylistic expression, choice of subject matter and the identity of the artist that crystallizes at the perspective or those of the artistic object / material manifest themselves as the source of the criteria for uniqueness and creativity.
The History of Art Conference aims to trace the tracks of the dialectic correlation in between the art and the concepts of society and artistic crops of this correlation from the very roots of the art to the modern world and to the present. During the conference and within the context of society, well known periods and moments of the history of art will be brought to the agenda and new areas of interest that will be revealed by this perspective will be explored.
HISTART '14 will be organized from 23th to 25th of October, by DAKAM (Eastern Mediterranean Academic Research Center).
