Overview: Everyone who works in healthcare has heard of HIPAA. Often, HIPAA is a big unknown that people know relates to protecting the privacy of healthcare records, but they do not know specifics. This topic is designed to provide any person who works in healthcare with an understanding of HIPAA, what it is, what is included, and what the rules are. Instead of a boring session of reading rules, Darrell brings a teaching style that simplifies difficult concepts into useable bundles of information that can be easily remembered and applied.
Because rules change, this session will highlight changes that have occurred to the Privacy Regulations and the impact of those changes to healthcare organizations.
Why should you attend: The HIPAA Privacy rule and the amendments from HITECH and the Omnibus Rule can present a lot of confusion. Organizations that do not follow the rules can be subjected to complaints, investigations, and penalties. In the worst situations, inappropriate uses and disclosures of PHI can result in damage to the reputation of the organization. The best way to avoid the problems is to have a good working knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy regulations.
Areas Covered in the Session:
Overview of the HIPAA Privacy Rule
Scope, limitations and exceptions
Changes from the Omnibus Rule compliance date of September 23, 2013
Breach notification rules and requirements
Applying the rule to common situations
Who Will Benefit:
