PESE 2014 - International Workshop on Personalizing Search - From Search Engines to Exploratory Search Systems (PESE2014)
Topics/Call fo Papers
Search personalization is a must in modern search engines, as the amount of information rapidly increases. Personalization of search results is extremely challenging as mainstay factors such as user behavior and needs change over time and between search tasks. A specially challenging field for personalization is exploratory search. In exploratory search, users explore the domain space in order to learn or investigate. Therefore, the intermediate results of the search, the process, path, is extremely significant, in contrast to ordinary look-up search paradigms.
The workshop will focus on challenges, trends and solutions of personalizing search tasks. We aim to particularly discuss personalization in exploratory search scenarios, yet we enthusiastically welcome the discussion of any kind of personalized search.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
Visualization approaches
Implicit interaction and relevance approaches
Harvesting of profile of users from history of interaction approaches
Context-awareness approaches
Combining recommender and retrieval systems approaches
Physiological interfaces for implicit relevance feedback approaches
Search personalization is an extremely engaging field. In this workshop we aim to focus on personalized search tasks, emphasizing the field of exploratory search. The workshop aims to bring together researchers from multiple fields such as information retrieval, user modeling, exploratory search, information visualization, recommender systems, and psychophysiology, among others.
