Services Science is a topic of growing interest for researchers and policy makers alike. This has particularly been so in the last decade, as services have grown to constitute the larger part of employment and output in most industrial countries, and it is becoming the largest sector in most developing nations. Developing innovative services and launching them successfully in market is also more and more becoming the key to succeed in developing and sustaining competitive advantage for enterprises both in service and in manufacturing sectors.
The increasing importance of services for the economy has opened the door for a wide variety of service research topics in a growing number of research disciplines. In light of these trends, the First International Conference on Service Science and Innovation (ICSSI) was held in August, 2009, in Taipei, which serves as a forum that
allows researchers and practitioners from different fields to meet with each other for intellectual exchanges, research collaborations, and professional development in the areas of service science, management, and engineering.
The Second International Conference on Service Science and Innovation (ICSSI) will be held in Beijing, China during August 8-10, 2010, hosted by Beijing Research Center of Urban System Engineering.
The theme of ICSSI (2010) will be Scientific Research and Service Innovation to highlight the important role of the scientific research in promoting the innovation and development in service sector as it has been in manufacturing sector. At the same time, the topics will span the service science, management and engineering, and service innovation. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
