DMC 2014 - International Workshop on Data Management in the Cloud
Topics/Call fo Papers
Cloud computing has emerged as a promising computing and business model. By providing on-demand scaling capabilities without any large upfront investment or long-term commitment, it is attracting a wide range of users. The database community has also shown great interest in exploiting this new platform for data management services in a highly scalable and cost-efficient manner. Cloud computing presents challenges and opportunities for data management. The Data Management in the Cloud (DMC) workshop aims to bring researchers and practitioners in cloud computing and data management systems together to discuss the research issues at the intersection of those areas, share experiences building and managing cloud-scale data management services, and also to draw more attention from the larger data management research community to this highly promising field.
This year, DMC aims at creating a platform where the participants can have lively and insightful discussions on challenging issues and also interesting solutions in the broad scope of data management in the cloud. Different from a typical workshop submission of a short research paper, we request participants to submit a brief (1 page) technical summary, extended abstract, or position statement, presenting a viewpoint on a controversial topic, a summary of lessons learned, experience with systems, an innovative mechanism, a big problem on the horizon, or anything else that is interesting and would engage participants in the conversation.
Topics
The topics could be in a wide range of areas relevant to data management in the cloud, including but are not limited to:
Big data analytics in the cloud
New database architectures for the cloud
Elasticity for Could Data Management Systems
Resource and Workload Management in Cloud Databases
Multi tenancy
High Availability and Reliability in Cloud Databases
Cloud computing infrastructures design for cloud data services
Transactional models for Cloud Databases
Distributed and Massively Parallel query processing
Storage architectures and technologies for cloud databases
Privacy and security in cloud data management
Mobile cloud data management
Cross-platform interoperability
Service-level agreements
Economic/business models, and pricing policies
Novel data-intensive/data-rich computing applications
Virtualization and Cloud Databases
