WCS 2013 - Workshop on Cyber Security
Topics/Call fo Papers
The world over, more and more personal, government and business information, is being generated and stored and shared on computers. However, computers are *not* completely trustworthy when it comes to securing your information. Thus, as an end user, you will be often held responsible for information that you store on your computer. Loss or theft of data stored on computers can be quick, but remain unnoticed until it's too late, and catastrophic from a business/governance point of view.
Objective of the Course
The purpose of the program is to provide participants with in depth knowledge and skills to protect their information assets. The sessions will immerse candidates into an interactive environment where they will acquire understanding of various computer and network security threats such as identity theft, credit card fraud, online banking phishing scams, virus and backdoors, emails hoaxes, loss of confidential information, hacking attacks and social engineering. More importantly, the skills learnt from the session helps participants take the necessary steps to mitigate their risks.
This course is a combination of theory and hands on. As a computer user, especially one with a connection to the Internet, malicious users on other machines who could be sitting on another continent specially target you. This course will teach you about how you can better secure your data, identify threats, and survive and recover from computer attacks.
