SAICSIT 2013 offers a unique opportunity for postgraduate students at masters and doctoral levels to actively engage with knowledgeable and experienced researchers in their field, on the first day of the conference (7 October 2013). Successful students will be required to present their research during the dedicated sessions, and will also be required to display their work by means of a poster for the duration of the conference.
Participation is free and open to all Computer Science, Information Systems and Information Technology postgraduate research students at any stage of their research. The Postgraduate Symposium provides an excellent opportunity to:
practice giving conference presentations in a friendly environment
show your research to peers and experienced academics
meet other postgraduate researchers working on similar areas of research but based in different Research Centres and Universities
receive meaningful feedback on your research
The organizing committee invites candidate participants to apply for participation in the symposium. There will be the opportunity for interactions with academics recognized as experts in their fields. Symposium presentations will consist of a 15 minute presentation and a 10 minute open floor discussion with faculty and students. Participants will be divided into streams, depending on their discipline and/or research focus.
Candidates should submit an abstract (approx. 500 words) before 8 July 2013 via the Online Submission System. The abstract formatting guidelines are similar to the prescribed format for a full research paper.
The number of participants will be limited per stream and a confirmation of acceptance will be given by 12 August 2013.
Successful students will be required to submit a 3-4 page proposal or summary of their research by 15 September 2013. This will be circulated among panel members and faculty prior to presenting at the symposium, to ensure that panel moderators are well informed of your research and can provide you with meaningful feedback on the day. Successful students are also expected to prepare a 15-minute presentation (using PowerPoint or other appropriate medium - a computer with PowerPoint 2010 will be made available during sessions) and present it to peers and panel members.
Each participant needs to bring to the Symposium a poster that summarizes their research work. Poster dimensions should be maximally A1 size (84.1 x 59.4 cm).
There is no registration fee for students presenting at the postgraduate symposium. If they attend the main conference, a registration fee will be charged for the main conference. The postgraduate symposium is open to postgraduate students and invited academics only.
