CBA 2013 - International Workshop on Cloud Computing for Bioinformatics and Its Applications (CBA)
Topics/Call fo Papers
After the reference genomes of many organisms are sequenced in the post-genetic era, an important issue is to do the re-sequencing or de novo sequencing of individual genomes with high-throughput reads. Many next-generation sequencing machines have been proposed in the last few years and a series of re-sequencing or de novo sequencing methods and techniques have been developed. By these methods and techniques, more and more next-generation sequencing applications have been proposed and solved, such as gene expression profiling, miRNA profiling, meta-genomic, and etc. However, today’s biological data is being generated and collected at an incredible scale, the buzzword “big data”. For instance, an individual laboratory can generate terabase-scales of DNA and RNA sequencing data within a day by next-generation sequencing technologies. It is difficult to manage and process big biological data using conventional methods, due to their size but also their complexity. It requires entirely different thoughts, while the major obstacle could be the complexity, size, or integration of various data sources. These barriers spur the revolutions of both storage and computing technologies whereby the developed tool and service can be highly scalable, totally reliable, more elastic, and so on. Cloud computing is one of feasible solutions for processing big biological data.
CBA 2013 is intended to provide a forum for researchers to present their contributions as technical papers related to the Next-Generation Sequencing and Its applications for Cloud computing, considering re-sequencing or de novo sequencing methods and techniques on Cloud, bio-database integration on the Cloud, Cloud-based bio-computing, Cloud technologies in next-generation sequencing applications and all kinds of successful and potential applications. The papers solicited in CBA 2013 cover a variety of topics including but not limited to:
Next-generation sequencing application as a Service
High performance computing for accelerating re-sequencing or de novo sequencing techniques
Cloud computing technology for analyzing next-generation sequencing data
Large scale analysis of next-generation sequencing data on Cloud
Large scale bio-molecular and phylogenetic databases integration on Cloud
miRNA and other small RNA analysis on Cloud
Gene expression analysis on Cloud
Meta-genomic data analysis on Cloud
Systems biology analysis on Cloud
Biomarker analysis on Cloud
Bio-Imaging processing on Cloud
Successful and potential next-generation sequencing applications on Cloud
We invite you to submit papers with unpublished, original research describing recent advances on the areas related to this workshop. All papers will undergo peer review by the conference program committee. All papers accepted will be included in the Workshop Proceedings and will be available at the workshops. Authors of selected papers will be invited to extend their papers for submission to special issues in prestigious Journals.
