UsiNg 2013 - International Workshop on UsiNg and building ClOud Testbeds
Topics/Call fo Papers
Today there is a variety of Cloud testbeds whose aim is to offer the possibility to investigate and understand what are the best options and the existing trade-offs in cloud and network configurations when engineering services in hybrid cloud scenarios (federations and multi-clouds including brokerage) where data and applications are distributed across Internet. The concept of ‘research by experimentation’ or learning by doing is at the core of this approach. The use of testbeds allows the evaluation of cross-cutting effects of converged service and network infrastructures. In order to do so, the testbeds expose a set of capabilities beyond those normally provided by production cloud services in a commercial environment.
Objectives and topics:
The objective of the workshop is to present and discuss the research and use of cloud testbeds in the field of multi-Cloud and Federations, as well as to identify gaps in research and development and the status of the take-up of currently available testbeds. The workshop will feature working operational cloud experimentation testbeds that can drive this vision forward, as well as the generation of new cloud testbeds that address these challenges further.
We solicit submissions providing details of practical and successful cases of doing research by experimentation in the clouds. For example, we expect to gather use cases of systematic testing and service delivery optimization in the cloud from a variety of application domains including medical, engineering, media or home-automated services. We also solicit submissions relating to cloud testbed usage relating to other fundamental research areas in the Cloud such as elastic QoS in clouds, privacy cases, data management, etc.
Topics include but are not limited to:
- Cloud testbed operation & management
- Software testing in the Cloud: tests (regression, integration, etc), best practices and Testing as a Service frameworks
- Testbed tools and APIs for interoperability (practical implementations)
- Global monitoring across multi-cloud testbeds
- Innovative measurements methodologies and tools
- Cloud testbed federations and brokerage solutions
- Cloud to network interfaces for Internet service deployments
- Impact of cloud-network convergence for Internet of Services
- Future evolution of cloud testbeds for experimentation
- Sustainability of cloud testbeds for experimentation
- Practical experiences on application and service deployments (smart home, multimedia, health, government, etc) on Cloud testbeds
recreating and testing hybrid cloud scenarios (multi-cloud, federated or private-public clouds)
- Cloud application benchmarking (following the practical research by experimentation approach)
