SEED 2013 - SEED Inauguration Workshop on Building a Digital Ecosystem for Societal Empowerment
Topics/Call fo Papers
Issues faced by Social, Economic and Environmental Development (SEED) are multifaceted and thus require a holistic and multidisciplinary approach for increased effectiveness. Yet, the lacks of tools and well defined structures and processes to enable desperate resources working effectively together towards common goals have hindered progress. For example, the highly taunted objectives of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals have hardly been addressed comprehensively. Much of the world lives in poverty, literacy rates are dropping, wilderness and natural areas are being depreciated, and the global economy suffers from boom or bust cycles with widespread collateral damage. How can the members of IEEE address the creation of thriving human communities with innovation in collaborative techniques?
This workshop is based on the SEED Framework concept paper developed by iFOSSF.org with invitations to scholars, community leaders and industry experts for discourse. The aim is to derive an actionable research agenda, standards development roadmap as well as private and public sector partnership strategy for SEED Framework realization.
The SEED framework design is to support self-organizing multidisciplinary collaborations and actions that combine the strength of both structured and unstructured workforces. The framework takes an open and “Coopetition” development strategy that integrates existing standards and best practices across multiple sectors that enables a new level of efficiency for development.
