DIR 2013 aims to serve as a platform for exchange and discussion on information retrieval research and application in the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as internationally. We invite high-quality research contributions addressing relevant challenges in the domains of information retrieval, natural language processing and data mining. Contributions may range from theoretical work to descriptions of applied research and systems. We especially encourage doctoral students to present their ongoing research. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Adversarial IR
Collaborative filtering and recommender systems
Cross-lingual retrieval
Email & desktop search
Information extraction
Interactive IR
IR evaluation
Machine Learning for IR
Mobile IR
Multimedia IR, video retrieval, music & speech retrieval, cross-media retrieval
Natural language processing for IR
Privacy aspects of IR
Query log analisys
Question answering
Retrieval models
Scalability and retrieval efficiency
Structured document retrieval, XML-IR
Temporal IR, topic tracking and event detection
Text classification and clustering
Text summarization
User interfaces & interaction
User models & Search personalisation
Web Retrieval
We accept three types of submissions: (1) Research papers should describe original research, with a maximum length of 4 pages. (2) Compressed papers consist of a summary of previously published work, with a maximum length of 2 pages. Accepted papers are presented at the conference, in the form of oral or poster presentations (the concrete presentation mode will be decided based on the authors' preferences and reviewer suggestions). (3) Demonstrations showcase applied research and industrial products. Each demo is described by at most 2 pages and will be presented in a dedicated session during the workshop. Presenters of accepted demos will be provided with tables, power sockets and an Internet connection.
All submissions must be received by March 8th, 2013 and will be reviewed by domain experts on the basis of the originality of the work, the validity of results, chosen methodology, writing quality and overall contribution. All papers should be submitted digitally in pdf-format, using the ACM SIG Proceedings style. The conference language is English.
