Standards and indicators are needed for measuring carbon performance of a city. How to account for carbon emissions in various locations is a key issue in urban planning and development. Nevertheless, the relationship between carbon emitted in a city and its underlying drivers ? population, economic structure, energy source, transport and built infrastructure, and urban services ? is complicated. This complexity makes it especially hard to evaluate planning alternatives for low carbon city. Therefore, methodological development for evaluating a city from low carbon perspective is an important and urgent task for the sake of achieving an efficient and sustainable human dwelling.
?
In this issue, we focus on how and what kinds of the standards of measuring low carbon cities have been formulated in different Asian cities and how efforts to reduce carbon emissions in spatial development projects have been made in planning practice.

Subject Coverage
“Low Carbon Initiatives in Asian Cities” including the following aspects, but not limited:

Spatial development for low carbon city
Low carbon economics
Urban energy use
Urban transport
Urban Municipal services
