As disasters and crimes are constant threats to our lives and properties, building a safer living environment has always been an important topic in our human society.? There have been efforts for making safer cities in a variety of academic and practical fields.? With the growing knowledgebase coupled with increasingly advanced spatial modeling technology, we are in a better position than ever before to explore effective and efficient ways of planning for safer cities.? Safety-conscious urban planning and development, which provide safe public or open spaces, is playing a critical role in making a “Safer City” or a functional, vibrant and livable city. It calls for research projects that can help prevent disasters and crimes or minimize their impacts through rigorous and innovative spatial analysis in urban spatial context.
?
This special issue is about planning and development of safer cities based on interpretation of spatial processes and patterns of disasters and crimes.? It is expected that advanced spatial analysis and simulation of disasters and criminal incidents help identify and describe the urban environment and urban planning/management methods that can effectively prevent or mitigate those disasters and crimes.
?
Suggested Coverage?
?
1. Spatial Analysis on Urban Disaster
2. Mitigation Strategies on Urban Disaster
3. Spatial Analysis for Crime Prevention
4. Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED)
5. Urban Management for Safer City
6. Spatial Analysis and Simulation
