Personalization has gained traction driven largely by issues related to information overload and the demands of computer mediated interactions generally implemented in distributed large scale systems. Effective personalization demands the profiling of individuals and entities to enable the Delivery of Personalized Services; context-aware systems provide the basis upon which personalization can be realized. Awareness is the ability to be ‘smart’ in interpreting feelings, perceptions, and emotions. Intelligent Context-aware systems include context awareness, intention awareness, situation awareness, location awareness, risk awareness, safety awareness, and opportunity awareness, etc. The ultimate goal is to build smart context-aware systems and applications in theoretical and practical developments.
Context is inherently complex, its effective use in intelligent context-aware systems representing a protracted and difficult challenge that has to date not been effectively addressed. In Contextual Computing, a context definition should include contextual information to enable systems to effectively and precisely understand users and their situated role (a situated role describing the current situation and environment individual users experience during their interaction with the system) while reacting dynamically to the users requirements, feelings, perceptions, and emotions.
The aim of the workshop is to present topical and innovative research utilizing intelligent context-aware systems and technologies to address theoretical and practical issues in a diverse and heterogeneous range of application domains. This workshop provides a forum for engineers, researchers, and scientists to exchange the latest results of Intelligent Context-Aware Systems. The workshop will seek original contributions in all relevant areas addressing the fundamentals and developments in intelligent context and its use in context-aware systems including (but not limited to) the following topics:
Topics of Interest
Intelligent context-aware systems research in the fields of collaborative systems, e-Learning m-Learning and distance learning, e-UbiComp,e-Health monitoring in ‘smart-spaces’ supporting assisted living in distributed large scale networked systems, and computer mediated interactive systems using Web 2.0 applications.
The effective implementation of awareness in intelligent context-aware applications and systems including context/background awareness, intention and preference awareness, situation awareness, location awareness, risk awareness, safety awareness, opportunity awareness, and emotional awareness.
Research addressing the nature and usage of contextual information including: explicit knowledge, tacit knowledge, emotional response data, Kansei Engineering, and semiotics.
Web Technologies such as: Ontology-Based Context modeling and Semantic Web Technologies in context-aware and intelligent networking including Context-Aware Mobile and Smart information systems
