The ever increasing dimension of image processing has made its presence felt in our day-to-day life. Be it entertainment or security, engineering or medicine, image processing is omnipresent. Winter School on Digital Image Processing (WiSDIP) offers a platform to learn, unlearn, and relearn the finer nuances of some of the imaging dimensions. The school offers theory and practice of digital image processing using MATLAB and OpenCV. One major topic of image processing is covered in every lecture, typically consisting of discussions of the basic theoretical concepts and some examples illustrating practical imaging problems. The school will also impart insights of some major research problems on image processing, computer vision. The course plan of the school is designed for students of higher education as well as for teachers and researchers. The overwhelming response of WiSDIP-2011 has inspired us to include an in-depth deliberation covering fundamentals as well as advances on biometric research in the curriculum. State of the art techniques, milestones, and lab exercises are among the attractions.
