Topics/Call fo Papers

A recent direction in cancer research is the acquisition of a broad range of high throughput genomic data modalities with a high potential in understanding the molecular basis of the disease and in the identification of therapeutic strategies. In the next 10 years, it is likely that information mined from such data will play a key role in the pathological diagnostic analysis and will inform clinicians on decisions regarding the most appropriate, targeted and individualized therapy for optimal patient outcome. These analyses also hold the promise of improved drug discovery and novel target identification. Numerous public onco-genomic projects, such as The Cancer Genome Atlas and the International Cancer Genome Consortium have become available to remove the restrictions of access to high quality data, which in turn has brought an influx of new researchers and ideas from across disciplines to work towards these goals. However, it remains a significant need to create a forum for these researchers to share ideas on how to integrate signals in the data to and discover the mechanisms used by cancer to initiate, progress and metastasize.
This workshop is meant to provide an open environment for discussions on innovative bioinformatics strategies for the analysis of integrative cancer genomics data.
The workshop topics include, but are not limited to the following:
Strategies for accessing, integrating and analyzing high throughput multi-modal cancer genomic data (i.e., gene expression, copy number, GWAS, mutation, methylation, miRNA etc)
Strategies for querying, visualizing and comparing data descriptors and biological features derived from multi-source data modalities
Strategies for knowledge extraction from multi-modal genomics data in the context of current cancer data repositories
Strategies for identification of candidate cancer driver genomic events.
We invite original research papers describing recent advances on the areas related to this workshop. The submissions will be peer reviewed by the Workshop Program Committee and the accepted papers will be included in the Workshop Proceedings published by the the IEEE Computer Society Press. Selected papers will be invited for publication in journal special issues according to the BIBM2012 publication policy.
Please submit the papers (up to 8 page IEEE 2-column format) via the online BIBM2012 submission system. Format instruction and LaTeX and Word templates are available here. For the accepted manuscripts, formatting instructions will be provided with the acceptance notification.
