Topics/Call fo Papers

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is becoming one of the standard high throughput data acquisition techniques that finds its application to both genome and transcriptome research. NGS data has unprecedented dynamic range and sensitivity, while introducing nontrivial informatics challenges to the bioinformatics research community. Accelerated development of computing infrastructure, massive storage, sophisticated data analysis methods and scalable computational tools are in great demand to catch up with the rapid increase of the throughput. The goal of this workshop is to bring together the NGS researchers to communicate research results, share new ideals and networking. The main interests of the workshop concern new methods, algorithms and tools for NGS data analysis as well as applications to address important biological problems, as well as developing clinic applications for the disease diagnosis and treatment. Research topics include, but are not limited to:

  • New analysis, data mining, and pattern recognition methods for NGS data

  • Database and management of NGS data

  • Data compression techniques for storing NGS data

  • Data visualization methods and tools

  • New methods for integrating multiple types of NGS data or NGS data with other data types

  • Parallel computing\cloud computing\GPU computing technologies for NGS data processing

  • NGS applications for novel disease biomarker discovery by integrative approach

  • Computational frameworks and novel algorithms for identifying structural variations (i.e. large indels, inversions, and translocations) that may be related to complex diseases especially for cancers based on NGS data

We invite you to submit papers with unpublished, original research describing recent advances on the areas related to this workshop. All papers will undergo peer review by the conference program committee. All papers accepted will be included in the Workshop Proceedings published by the IEEE Computer Society Press and will be available at the workshops. Authors of selected papers will be invited to extend their papers for submission to a special issue in the following 4 magazines: International Journal of Data Mining and Bioinformatics , BMC Bioinformatics , BMC Genomics , AI in Medicine.
