Special Issue: Machine-to-Machine Communications and Related Applications
Call for Paper
Present day communication technology has witnessed a paradigm shift with the advent of machine to machine (M2M) or (or machine-type) communications that have immense potential. As a vehicle for wireless communication, M2M networks have become the domain of interest for the industry and academia. Nowadays intense efforts are being undertaken for standardizing M2M networks and communication protocols by bodies like 3GPP, ETSI, IEEE, and IETF. Various services and applications which involve M2M networks and communications could be identified. Those include intelligent transport system (vehicular communication), smart grid and intelligent power distribution design and home automation. These services and applications have completely transformed the way communication systems are defined and believed to operate so far. M2M has opened mass markets and several business opportunities among the communication fraternity. From the research pursued till date, it could be predicted that the commercialization of M2M networks, on a serious note, may increase the number of mobile subscribers four times greater than the population of any country. Consequently, M2M communication can ensure high average revenue per user (ARPU) and good return of investment (ROI) for the mobile operators. This special issue is proposed to address (but not limited to) the following topics related to M2M communication:
- M2M used cases i.e., smart grid, vehicular communication, smart robots network
- Scalable system architecture and components
- Energy-efficient and Intelligent network layer and internetworking protocols
- Radio access technologies and protocols
- Radio resource management
- Mobility management
- Security, authentication and encryption
- Channel and traffic models
- Applications, test-bed and prototypes
- Performance management (QoS, scalability, reliability, etc.)
- Standardization activities i.e., WiMAX 802.16p, 802.16.1b and LTE-advanced
- Cooperative communication and virtual MIMO
