LOCATION
As Sri Lanka’s largest urban centre, Colombo is a vibrant and naturally resplendent treasure of South Asia. The infrastructure of Colombo itself is a mottled combination of culture: old and new, east and west. Because the city’s harbor was used by sea-traders up to 2000 years ago, the area’s architecture ranges from ancient to post-modern, including Indian, Chinese, Arab, Dutch, Portuguese, and British colonial influences, as well as more modern, state-of-the-art designs. Colombo’s widely diverse architecture is demonstrated best by the contrast between the National Museum of Colombo, built in 1877, and the brand new Nelum Pokuna (Lotus Pond) Theatre, which opened in December 2011. The Theatre’s postmodern design has already attracted many world-class musical and theatrical performances, and rivals the World Trade Centre of Colombo as the iconic building of the city.
PURPOSE
The IASTED International Conference on Engineering and Applied Science (EAS 2012) will serve as a major forum for international researchers, professionals, and students to present their latest research, developments, applications, and ideas in all branches of engineering and applied science. Some of the relevant topics are listed at the end of this announcement. EAS 2012 aims to strengthen relations between industries, research laboratories, and universities. The papers submitted to this conference will be chosen through a double-blind evaluation by at least two reviewers. Acceptance will be based primarily on originality and contribution. Awards are planned for Best Paper and Best Student Paper. Also a selected set of high-quality papers will be considered for publication in IASTED International Journals (e.g., Control and Intelligent Systems).
