Scope and Topics
Mobile phones play an important role in learning and teaching because they provide an environment for active learning
and social interactions anytime and anywhere. With today’s mobile phones, we can do many of the tasks we can do with
our PCs. Mobile phones allow students to utilize videos, visualizations, interactive instructional materials, online
homework, games, discussion groups/boards, project demonstrations, and many free applications.
The Mobile Learning Workshop at ICNC 2012 explores every aspect of mobile learning, from apps development to
assessment and evaluation. It covers today’s practices for the use of tablet and smartphone technologies in education. We
are seeing that social networking, video, and mobile apps are having a major impact on the way we teach, and we are
welcoming contributions that help to advance the use of technologies to better support learning and educational purposes.
The workshop consists of four sessions; the first session provides a tutorial on mobile learning and state of the art
support. The other three sessions provide presentations on mobile learning research. Each of these sessions includes 5 to 6
speakers, each representing a related topic on mobile learning. In particular, we aim to explore the following topics:
Developing games and apps for mobile device

 Social constructivist approaches
 Technologies for mobile learning
 Development tools for mobile learning
 Case studies
Assessment and evaluation of mobile learning
