MT Summit XIII 4th Workshop on Patent Translation
September 23, 2011 Xiamen, China
http://mt.xmu.edu.cn/mtsummit/
Workshop Theme
Patent information is one of the major application areas of machine translation. Five major patent offices in
the world: Japan, Korea, China, Europe and U.S. intend to exchange patent information through machine
translation. The workshop aims to foster research and development of the technology for patent translation
by providing a forum in which researchers and practitioners can exchange their ideas, approaches,
perspectives, and experiences from their work in progress. We have successfully made the same workshops
in MT Summit X, XI and XII. We will have deeper discussions about this theme in this workshop.
Double submission of papers to both the workshop and the main conference will also be welcomed.
The workshop will consist of 1-3 invited talk(s) and presentation of submitted papers.
We are, also, organizing a special session about patent translation in the MT Summit XIII main conference.
It will consist of these programs.
- Invited talk 1: Korean Industrial Property Office (TBD)
- Invited talk 2: World Intellectual Property Organization (TBD)
- Panel discussion: Discussion between government people, MT product vendors and researchers.
Areas of Interest
Topics of interests include, but are not limited to:
- MT and translation aids for patent documents
- Language resources for patent translation
- Evaluation techniques for patent translation
- Multilingual patent classification and retrieval
Submission of papers
The workshop invites original submissions in any of the topics mentioned. Any types of papers, including
research papers, survey papers and reports on user's experiences, are welcomed.
Submissions should be A4, single-column format and not be longer than 3,500 words including figures,
tables and references.
Authors are requested to keep their papers anonymous and submit separate cover pages with the following
information:
- paper title,
- author's name(s), affiliation(s), address(es), and e-mail address(es),
- 100-200 word summary,
- some keywords for classifying the submission.
Electronic submissions in PDF format are strongly preferred.
The two electronic files should be attached to an email and sent to the following address:
