The 15th Ottawa Conference on the Assessment of Competence in Medicine and the Healthcare Professions takes place at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia, from 9-13 March 2012, jointly organised by International Medical University (IMU) Kuala Lumpur, and The Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE). The website is currently under development and registration and online abstract submission will start on 1 July.

Call for Preconference workshops: Half-day (3 hour) and full-day (6 hour) workshops will take place at KLCC and at IMU on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 March. Submissions for preconference workshops are invited on any theme relating to assessment in medicine and the healthcare professions. Workshops could be introductory, intermediate or advanced, to cater for all levels of experience, including topics relating to postgraduate education and CME/CPD, as well as to undergraduate education.

Topics might include: The philosophy of assessment and underpinning theory; The learning outcomes assessed; New and established technologies and methods of assessment; The purpose and role of assessment; Assessment, the curriculum and curriculum evaluation; Management of the assessment process; Research on assessment; International dimensions of assessment. Any topic related to assessment will be considered.

Audience: Attendees include teachers in medicine and the healthcare professions, deans, administrators, course directors, assessment specialists, researchers, students and trainees from many countries around the world, representing undergraduate education, postgraduate education and CME/CPD.

Your submission should include:

Title of workshop
Preferred duration (3 hours or 6 hours: note - most workshops will be 3 hours)
Names of workshop organiser(s) and institution(s)
Abstract text (maximum 250 words) including (1) background; (2) content; (3) who should attend; (4) intended outcomes; (5) level of workshop (introductory/intermediate/advanced).

Please send your preconference workshop submissions by email to amee-AT-dundee.ac.uk by 7 May. Submitters will be contacted soon after to say whether or not it has been possible to include the workshop in the programme.

The call for oral presentations, posters and conference workshops will go out in early July, and the submission deadline for these categories will be 30 September.
