Topics/Call fo Papers

MMSP 2011 is the 13th international workshop on multimedia signal processing. The workshop is organized by the Multimedia Signal Processing Technical Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. The focus theme for this workshop is client-cloud multimedia computing. The cloud computers, clients and the network connecting them jointly constitute a new distributed computing environment with large scale computation, data and storage, which offers great opportunities for multimedia signals. Of particular interest is the case where mobile devices serve as the input and output console. Besides the existing challenges in the common client-cloud environment, multimedia computing has additional challenges in joint client-cloud computing, including high bandwidth communication, QoS of multimedia service, multimedia security and privacy, and so on. The workshop will bring together researchers and developers in both multimedia signal processing and client-cloud computing to share their latest achievements and explore future directions and synergies in these exciting areas.

Papers are solicited in the above workshop theme, including (but not limited to) the following topics, covering the general scope of the multimedia signal processing:

? Client-cloud multimedia systems, applications, and experiences
Image and video search, map-based applications, mobile-based multimedia applications, conferencing, virtual classrooms and distance learning, multimodal collaboration, telemedicine, online multiplayer gaming, social networking, context-aware multimedia experiences
? Client-cloud multimedia processing services
Video/audio/graphics processing performed on device, in the cloud, or hybrid combination. Adapt distributed resources based on time-varying usage, network and compute load.
? Multimedia for communication and collaboration
Ad-hoc broadband sensor array, microphone and camera array, loudspeaker and display array, sensor calibration and synchronization, source separation, localization, de-noising, enhancement and spatialization
? Virtual reality signal processing
Virtual reality and 3D imaging, 2D and 3D graphics/geometry animation, distributed virtual reality communication, 3D audio and video processing
? Coding for client-cloud multimedia computing
Distributed/centralized source coding, scalable source coding, error/loss resilient coding for telecommunications, joint source and channel coding
? Networking for client-cloud multimedia computing
Multimedia over IP and wireless, network multimedia quality monitoring and management, priority-based QoS control and scheduling, ad-hoc and infrastructure-based overlay network communication, P2P communication, channel coding, packetization, synchronization, buffering, cross-layer optimization for communications
? Security for client-cloud multimedia computing
Security for multimedia/multimodal streams, digital rights management, authentication, access control, privacy and security, data hiding
