[Overview]

Held in conjunction with BCS HCI 2011, CCID2 is a two-day symposium cultural
approaches to HCI and interaction design, emphasizing the intersections
between critical theory, the arts, creativity, aesthetics, and felt
experience and computing.

[Motivations and Goals]

In the past decade, HCI ? s cultural research agenda has stabilized as an
important sub-domain of the field. Approaches include disciplinary inputs
beyond the social sciences, including literary theory, critical theory,
aesthetic philosophy, feminism, performance theory, film studies,
hermeneutics, postmodernism, fine arts, queer theory, and post-colonialism.
Following on the success of 2006 ? s First International Symposium on Culture,
Creativity and Interaction Design (CCID), CCID2 seek to strengthen the
connections among the diverse disciplines contributing to culture,
creativity, and interaction design research. It will explore critical and
reflective approaches to the design and analysis of interactive technology.

[Format]

The two-day symposium will bring together a number of leaders in this area
as well as reach out to new voices for one day of presentations and demos,
followed by a second day of collaborative activities. The symposium will
also feature 1-2 keynote speakers from the Arts to help inspire participants
and frame key discussion threads.

[Submissions]

Those who are interested in attending the symposium are encouraged to submit
an abstract of 1000-1500 words to ccid2symposium [at] gmail.com that address
any of the following symposium themes:

* How can the arts contribute to interaction design and creativity research?
* What are the major strategies and methodologies in the arts that can be
used for interaction design and creativity research?
* How do we legitimate new design methodologies
* How do we cultivate disciplinary competences in the arts and the
humanities for interaction design research?
* How do we make the arts more accessible in interaction design without
diluting or distorting it?
* How do we develop educational and professional infrastructures in this
domain?

[Key Dates]

* Abstract submission deadline: May 1, 2011
* Notification of acceptance: May 20, 2011
* Confirmation of attendance and participant short bio due: May 31, 2011
* Final camera-ready abstract: June 2, 2011
* Symposium: July 4-5, 2011
