The most recent Internet evolutionary steps revolve around the role of the Internet end-user as consumer as well as producer of technology that takes advantage of pervasive media, i.e., tools, often low-cost, that rely on a range of interfaces (sensors) integrated into portable devices. The recent advances gave rise to new types of interaction between humans and machines, as well as between machines and the context surrounding humans. Embedded interfaces such as sensors surround us in the most varied forms, being capable not only to gather local information (such as traffic) but also capable of tracking some properties of human routine. Low-cost technology available on the Internet provides ways for the user to express him/herself in the most varied ways.
At the heart of this new accepted point of view is the notion of shared human interests which stem from diverse ways to express human interaction. The majority of this interaction is performed in a passive way, e.g. via mobile devices that access the Internet via mobile or wireless technology, and results in new types of content, e.g. self-expression but also personal and group behavior inference. Such trend is giving rise to new types of open content which is mostly being used in fields such as entertainment, or marketing.
In technological terms as well as in regards to the meddling between real and virtual worlds, pervasive media are a topic that has been addressed for long in field such as medicine, aerospace, or defense. Nevertheless, the onset of opening large data sets comprising different aspects of citizen's lives (e.g. transportation) as well as the recent availability of tools that assist the user in expressing him/herself gave rise to a new trend of immersive technology which is now integrating the most diverse areas of a citizen's routine. This trend is also impacting the Internet architectural design and Internet services, and giving rise to new business models by the user and towards the user.
The focus of PERM relates with new concepts, applicability, as well as impact of pervasive media on the daily routines of citizens. This workshop solicits original, high-quality papers that express, discuss, and analyze solutions concerning pervasive media, including specific improvements to the Internet architectural design, impact concerning human-computer-interaction, as well as explore the impact that technology has in citizen's lives.
Submission of full papers describing novel results or incremental work to previous work is encouraged. The workshop encourages also high-quality level position papers.
Relevant topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
? Affective computing.
? Cooperative sensing
? Human-computer interaction, and in particular social interaction design
? Behavior inference based on real-data collecting
? Social interaction semantics.
? Visual analytics for behavior inference
? Pervasive platforms (e.g., immersive education plaforms)
