Description
Cloud computing and service virtualization have progressed rapidly in recent years and face challenges of creating a highly efficient, secure, and transparent way to support the consolidation of all different kinds of legacy applications, packaged applications, and custom services. Performance related aspects of cloud and virtualization systems are becoming the bottlenecks for service implementation, deployment and commercial application and its operation. The cloud paradigm and services virtualization also come up with algorithmic and engineering issues as well as performance aspects not yet eminent but expected to grow with their spreading deployment and application, the scaling of the large cloud systems, and the dynamics of management and real time service performance. These new performance aspects may comprise, sometimes even deteriorate the efficiency, logical or physical transparency of cloud services, quality of isolation, fairness among virtualized systems, quality of synthetic services, scalability of the composition of virtualized services and of the management mechanisms for cloud centers and their operation patterns.
IEEE 2012 International Workshop on Performance Aspects of Cloud and Service Virtualization (IEEE CloudPerf 2012) is a forum for professionals involved in performance aspects of virtualized, autonomic and cloud computing systems. The goal of this workshop is to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the field of performance aspects including research, engineering, and industry related issues by providing a forum for sharing ideas and experiences between industry and academia, sharing and presenting their experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on performance aspects of cloud and service virtualization, including performance measurement, analytic modeling, simulation, performance engineering, benchmark design, and run-time performance management.
The workshop welcome various different kinds of papers that could formalize, simplify and optimize the performance aspects of existing cloud and virtualization infrastructures in science, engineering and business. The papers may address issues including performance models, performance engineering methods, and real world practices leading to cloud and virtualization services and solutions that provide users with efficient techniques for virtualizing and managing their own high performance cloud systems. Papers of applied research, industrial experience reports, work-in-progress and vision papers with different criteria for each category are also solicited. Extensions of selected papers will be published in a journal special issue.

Paper submission
Authors are invited to submit full papers (about 8 pages) or short papers (about 4 pages) as per IEEE 8.5 x 11 manuscript guidelines (http://www.computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm). All papers should be in PDF and submitted via at the submission system
First time users need to register with the system first. All the accepted papers by the workshops will be included in the Proceedings of the Seventh IEEE 2012 World Congress on Services (SERVICES 2012) which will be published by IEEE Computer Society.

Workshop Organizers Short Bio
Christophe Cérin is a professor at the University of Paris XIII, IUT de Villetaneuse where he leads the group on Grid and Parallel Systems. The Computer Science lab of the Paris XIII University (LIPN) is associated to the CNRS (URA 1507 then UPRESA 7030 and now UMR 7030) since January 1992. Most of the LIPN professor-researchers are attached to the Paris XIII University. The Lab is structured into five teams whose research themes show numerous meeting points: Algorithms and Combinatorial Optimization (AOC), where issues related to optimization into integers, approximation, and distributed and parallel algorithms are studied. The AOC team is composed of a group working on grid middleware, fault tolerant issues in parallel libraries and execution environment (safe execution). More precisely, the team is working on Desktop Grid middleware in order to decentralize all the architecture of current Desktop Grid Middleware. The team is developing BonjourGrid and PastryGrid which are available on Sourceforge. The team is also working on the design of efficient libraries for running threads on multicore machines, especially heterogeneous machines and on the design of fault-tolerant libraries and implementations for the MPI programming interface.
Song WU is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in China. He received his Ph.D. from HUST in 2003. He is now the vice head of Computer Engineering Department at HUST. He is also served as the vice director of Service Computing Technology and System Lab (SCTS) and Cluster and Grid Computing Lab (CGCL) of HUST now. In 2007, he is awarded New Century Excellent Talents in University (NCET). He has published more than sixty papers and obtained two patents (more than ten patent applications in the process) and almost ten software copyrights. Now he is in charge of a National High-tech project (863) and a NSF project on Grid Computing. He is also involved in a National Fundamental Research project (973) about virtual machine and interested in the virtualization technology. He is the PC Chair of 2010 IEEE Asia-Pacific Services Computing Conference (APSCC2010), Hangzhou, China.
Congfeng JIANG is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Technology at Hangzhou Dianzi University, Hangzhou, China. He received his PhD degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2007. He is with the Grid and Services Computing Lab. He is a member of the IEEE, the IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE Communication Society, and the China Computer Federation (CCF).He is actively involved in academic communities. He was the local chair of 2010 IEEE Asia-Pacific Services Computing Conference (APSCC2010), Hangzhou, China, and one of the publicity chairs of the IEEE 2011 Workshop on Performance Aspects of Cloud and Service Virtualization (IEEE CloudPerf 2012) with IEEE SERVICES 2011. He is the one of the Program co-chairs of 2012 International Workshop on High Performance Data Intensive Computing (HPDIC2012) in conjunction with IEEE IPDPS 2012.Now he is in charge of a Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) project on power performance in server systems. His research interests include virtualization and energy-aware computing systems.
