Aim and Scope

Information systems are becoming more and more complex systems, that have to deal with data and information coming from several resources, represented in a multitude of formats and with different degrees of certainty. Furthermore, information systems are more and more integrated with location-based services and with new Web 2.0 applications and systems, such as blogs, CRM 2.0 services, social networks.
Thus, technology for Flexible Data Management in Databases and Information Systems must be developed.
Several research areas are involved. The database field can provide models, languages and techniques to deal with large volumes of structured and semi-structured, data, as well as data warehousing. The soft computing area usually develops models, languages and techniques for uncertain and imprecise data representation and management. The information retrieval area can provide models and techniques for retrieving information in document bases, as well as for web search and ontology discovery. The GIS community is developing data models, languages and techniques to represent certain or uncertain dynamic spatio-temporal data; furthermore, techniques for location-based (geographical) services and systems are provided. Finally, the data mining area provides techniques for knowledge discovery on structured, semi-structured and spatio-temporal data. Blogs and Social Networks must not be forgotten: opinion mining and sentiment analysis techniques are becoming quite useful for CRM 2.0 systems.
The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers working on methods and techniques for Flexible Data Management in Databases and Information Systems in the broadest sense. Papers proposing models, methodologies and techniques concerning management of imprecise and uncertain data, data warehousing, spatio-temporal data management, knowledge discovery and management, advanced web search techniques, mobile and location aware systems, information retrieval techniques and systems, CRM 2.0 and opinion mining systems are encouraged.
Any kind of flexible data management issue is of interest: data models, query languages, textual and semi-structured data management, integrated application of different techniques (e.g. database, data mining and information retrieval methodologies and techniques). Position papers are also welcome and encouraged, as well as papers reporting about on-going work and practical experiences and systems.

In this edition, we plan a DEMO SESSION: not only papers describing systems are welcome, but we also solicit a demonstration of the system. Authors wishing to demonstrate their system must prepare a paper that describes the system; the authors will have to show the system in an alive interactive session.

The topics of the Workshop include but are not limited to the followings. We encourage both theoretical papers and papers that present practical experiences and systems.

Knowledge Discovery and Management
Data Mining and Information Retrieval over certain/uncertain data. Text Mining. Flexible techniques for data or text mining. Ontologies: Discovery and Maintenance. Web Mining. Search Engines and Web Ranking techniques. Opinion Mining from blogs and Social Networks.

Database Models and Query Languages
Database models for uncertain, imprecise, incomplete and vague data. Database models for flexible data warehouses. Database models for data mining and knowledge discovery. Database models for information retrieval applications. Query languages dealing with imprecision and vagueness. Query languages for flexible data warehouses. Query languages for data miming and knowledge discovery. Query languages for information retrieval. Query languages for Social Networks.

Semi-structured Data
Flexible management of (collections of) semi-structured data and documents (XML). Uncertain, imprecise, incomplete and vague semi-structured data. Data mining and knowledge discovery applied to semi-structured data. Information retrieval applied to semi-structured data.

Spatio-temporal Data, GIS and Mobility
Flexible representation and management of (vague or uncertain) Spatial and. Spatio-temporal data. Geographic Information Systems and Retrieval. Flexibility and/or Uncertainty in Location-based Systems.
