We are witnessing unprecedented growth of the internet video and entertainment popularity in recent years. Intelligent multimedia content delivery technologies have enabled a wide range of innovative services and applications, including web video streaming, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), interactive online games, over the top videos, and mobile video. While Content Delivery Networks (CDN) undertakes an important role in the current digital revolution, many challenges arise at the same time, for example, quality of experience, security, bandwidth efficiency, balance of network traffic, scalability, seamless integration with heterogeneous devices and applications, and content personalization and adaptation, just to name a few. It is a great opportunity for our technical community to provide the viable solutions and further enhance the existing multimedia CDN services.
The goal of this special issue is to solicit high-quality and original research contributions. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
* Network support for multimedia data
* Video content delivery accelerations and TCP/WAN acceleration for video content delivery
* New transport protocols for video content delivery
* Caching for multimedia content delivery
* Congestion control and traffic engineering for video content delivery
* HTTP-based streaming and new streaming protocols
* Multimedia content adaptation for three screen deliveries
* Personalized multimedia content delivery and services
* Interactive multimedia services in CDN
* Target advertisement in CDN
* Multimedia content discovery
* Multimedia content management
* Metadata for efficient multimedia content delivery and to support new value-added service capabilities
* QoE measurement and metrics for CDN
* Privacy: security issues in multimedia CDN
* Over the top video services and delivery
* Innovative IPTV services
* Service platforms for multimedia content delivery

* Interactive online games for multiplayers
