Overview:
This training is designed to help employees, and business owners understand where distractions come from and how to eliminate distracting thoughts that prevent us from focusing on being productive and using time wisely. The course is divided into three parts: (a) identifying workplace distractions, (b) how to set profitable goals and priorities, and (c) strategies to eliminate procrastination and four other types of distractions form your work environment.
While I will cover this depth during the training course, one of the biggest distraction at work is self- distraction or procrastination. Are you barely meeting deadlines or work assignments on a regular basis? Do you feel anxious when you have a major project due but feel as if you don't have sufficient time to get it done? Feeling the pressures of looming deadlines can cause mental fatigue and a lack of focus.
The objectives of this training are to understand that distractions tend to overwhelm us due to:
Fear of painful outcomes -This could stem from a bad experience in which you have not come to terms with, therefore conveniently using this particular excuse is a good way to inject procrastination into the equation
Fear of missing out - Do you feel like you need to do everything and be everywhere? If so, you could turn into a person who eventually resorts to procrastination as a defense mechanism
Procrastination if left unchecked can turn into a bad habit which could eventually be very hard to break. You may not realize that the habit of procrastination can cost you a lot of negativity; therefore, this training will help you to identify and eradicate distractions from your work environment.
The following are some of the most popular excuses why people lapsed into the procrastination habit:
The famous "I don't know" excuse. This is one of the most popular excuses given when you are not interested in getting a particular task done
Not challenging enough. This is another poor excuse often given as a way out of getting something done
Not feeling like it. This is plain and simple laziness, but it will not be acknowledged as such
Cannot be forced - eventually, when all else fails, you resort to this argument, whereby some level of hostility is injected into the situation. If used often enough this aggressive behavior can have even more damaging results, as you learn to rely on this negative element to get out of doing things
Although procrastinators are capable of using every excuse in the book, there are compelling underlying influences that can cause you to procrastinate. Exploring these contributing factors may allow you to break this negative cycle.
Most people who consciously want to avoid working on a task, in a group or project will usually form some sort of comfort zone. One of the more popular comfort zones is hiding behind the phrase, "I don't know." By giving this type of answer for anything, it almost always deters any follow-up actions or comments from others; thus, effectively keeping you from having to deal with conflict or finding solutions.
Another popular excuse used as a comfort zone is a lack of supporting tools for the job. A lot of people use this as a great excuse for not wanting to do anything they don't desire to do. This training will give you the tools and strategies to help employees rid themselves of procrastination and develop alternative behaviors that allow them to be better engaged and perform at a high level.
Why should you Attend: Workplace distractions reduce productivity by as much as 40 percent or more due to employees spending valuable time, energy and resources on projects, busy work, and activities, which do not add value or drive revenues. For example, the lack of focus and increase in workplace distractions have costs employers an estimated 28 billion wasted work hours a year, and close to $1 trillion to the U.S. economy. In this training, I will cover 8 common barriers to focus.
The truth is, when you fail to get things done it is due to a lack of self-control and setting ineffective goals. Unless there are circumstances out of your control. It's easy to give in to distractions and interruptions, which can result in disaster.
Fortunately, developing self- control or discipline is a learned skill that can turn things around if you commit to it.
Self-control is rooted in your desires. This training will show you how to find out what those desires are and how to measure them against what you are focused on in life. Remember, whatever you focus on will expand.
Too often, goal setting is more of a chore that we do each year, (sales, performance, staffing) and for many, the results are lacking. A major part of getting focused, productive and profitable is knowing what to say "No" to at work.
Here are several reasons why 88% of people fail at setting goals:
They are forcing you to work harder, not because you love it, but because you feel a need to set them each year
They might constrain and stop you from achieving other things outside of your goals
They might create anxiety and pressure to get all your goals done by a particular time frame
They might discourage you if you fail to get them done
They might stop you from living in the moment, as you keep looking forward to the future
In this course, you discover how to live in the present without worrying about where you'll be a few months or years from now. You can have the luxury of doing what's natural, not what's forced upon you by your goals and also achieve your performance goals at work.
You will learn that the biggest benefit of breaking free from the need to set goals is to focus on the present and savor it. This training will also help you to simplify your workspace by clearing the clutter, taking it slow, going with the flow, doing things effortlessly, prioritizing, and developing the skills needed to delegate.
