Chair
César Benavente-Peces
Universidad Politécnica de Madrid

Scope
More and more services are available nowadays, on the PC or on a mobile device, that depend on the localization of a person. Some of these services are context dependent and may be related to sensor networks in personal environments either outdoors or inside smart homes. Localization can be achieved via a variety of technologies: Indoor localization technologies include Bluetooth, WiFi, RFID, UWB and ultrasounds. Outdoor environments may be tackled with technologies such as WiMAX and GPS. In many useful applications, indoor systems should be integrated with outdoor systems in order to provide global coverage. This special session seeks to bring together researchers from universities, practitioners from companies and also those who belong to governmental agencies interested in the socio-technical issues that shape the networked society of the future. The topic of this special session is relevant for discussing issues such as how technology can contribute to increase efficiency and life quality of people to perform their daily activities in a world of increasing mobility and easy access to all kinds of services. There are applications in tourism, health, sports, the office, etc. We encourage authors to submit papers describing original work, including methods, techniques, recent advances, applications and tools.
