The 2nd Annual Asia-Pacific conference on Computer-Aided Qualitative will be held on the 24 & 25 February 2011 in Macau, China. The conference will be co-organised by Merlien Institute and University of Macau. This highly interactive meeting will bring together researchers, practitioners and trainers from the Asia-Pacific regions to discuss the key issues concerning the use of qualitative data analysis software to advance qualitative research.
The conference format will consist of an interactive workshops, submitted (reviewed) presentations, invited speeches as well as group discussion sessions. As with past events, this conference provided excellent opportunities for participants to network with peers.
Qualitative software and their implications on methodology and practical utility:
- An interactive workshop by Dr Elson Szeto
In this interactive workshop, Dr Elson Szeto will be providing an overview of two most popular qualitative data analysis software - NVivo and ATLAS.ti. He will be discussing the core features of these two software packages and comparing them in terms of their methodological utility and practical usability. He will also give advice to researchers on how to make a choice between different qualitative software packages. Members of the audience will be invited to reflect on their personal preferences. This session will benefit researchers who are considering using software to aid their qualitative research studies and projects.
Other topics that will be discussed and debated during the conference include:
-Developing successful strategies to work effectively in teams while using QDA software
-Defining the criteria for deciding which software to use for data analysis
-Analysing multimedia data: exploring new techniques of analysing multimedia data
-Developing a common coding system when working in teams
-How to write up the analysis process and putting together a report?
-Assessing the value and quality of computer-aided qualitative data analysis
-Comparing major qualitative software tools: strength and shortcomings
-Using software to enhance efficiency of performing qualitative data analysis
