The workshop organizers cordially invite submissions of original research work to the International Workshop on Environmental Health and Air Pollution (IWEHAP 2018), in conjunction with the 11th EAI International Conference on Mobile Multimedia Communications (MobiMedia 2018), to be held on June 20-22, 2018 in Qingdao, China. Paper formatting and submission instructions can be found at the MobiMedia 2018 website http://www.mobimedia.org/2018/show/initial-submiss.... IWEHAP 2018 accepts novel, innovative, and previously unpublished short papers (4-6 pages).
Air pollution has been recognized as a major environment-related health threat and a risk factor for both acute and chronic respiratory disease. For instance, epidemiological studies have consistently shown an association between atmospheric particle pollution and the number of deaths from cancer and cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Ozone can cause many health issues including irritation of the respiratory system, coughing, and reduced lung function. In order to better monitor pollution distribution and control its influence on public health, it is critical to estimate air pollution concentrations at different time and location and associate the concentrations with personal activities. Due to the rapid development of GIScience and spatial data technologies, air pollution studies using spatial analysis based on various types of available geo-tagged data presented significant opportunities in public health research.
The International Workshop on Environmental Health and Air Pollution (IWEHAP 2018) aims to discuss methods, opportunities, and challenges in linking air pollution spatiotemporal characteristics with public health outcomes by applying state-of-art methods such as machine learning, statistical data modeling, and big data analysis. The workshop plans to focus on the development of theories, methods, and practices in this interdisciplinary research. All submissions enabling cross-pollination of ideas on big data, machine learning, spatiotemporal analysis, sensor network, statistical modeling, visualization, exposure analysis, public health and air pollution are welcome. Topics include, but are not limited to:
• Spatiotemporal relationship between air pollution and chronic diseases
• Spatial uncertainty in modeling air pollution and/or public health data
• Big data handling in air pollution and public health
• Machine learning for geo-spatiotemporal big data in air pollution
• Statistical modeling for linkage between air pollution and public health
• Visual analytics approaches in analyzing air pollution data
• Analysis of exposure to ambient air pollution
• Analysis of individual exposure to air pollution based on sensors
• Sensor technologies in monitoring air pollution and health
• Spatial theories of air pollution and public health
• Real-time and/or historical air pollution analysis
After the workshop, selected researchers will be invited to submit full manuscripts as book chapters in an edited book titled “Spatiotemporal Analysis of Air Pollution and Its Application in Public Health”, to be published by Elsevier by the end of 2018.
