Data-oriented cloud systems, lying at the heart of the information age, is the driving force of different high-tech alluring applications of today’s market. Cloud platforms heavily depend on distributed processing and storage units. Hard disk drives, specially designed CPUs as well as recent advanced (NVMe ) flash memories, now occupying the racks of the giant data centers are serving the high performance computing and storage needs of academia as well as the industry. In addition, massively scalable distributed compute/storage networks have arisen to provide ubiquitous and high frequency access to data for analytics, bioinformatics, marketing, financial services and the like. Recent trends in high performance computing as well as the long existed proven technologies together pose novel problems of system complexity, density, reliability, efficiency and security. Genuine signal processing and network-aware erasure/error coding techniques are the primary place to look for and propose effective solutions for such problems. The goal of this special session is to bring together researchers, mathematicians and computer scientists to present novel/original/important work on emerging cloud data-oriented computing and storage applications.
