European Microwave Conference 2011
Manchester, 10-13 October
The 41st European Microwave Conference (EuMC) represents the main event in the European Microwave Week 2011 and now incorporates the wireless topics previously covered in the Wireless Technologies Conference (EuWIT) in a series of dedicated sessions common with the European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC).

The European Microwave Conference is the largest event within Europe to be dedicated to microwave technology and wireless systems. This is the premier forum that covers the present status and future trends in microwave, millimetre-wave and terahertz technologies. On the hardware side, all aspects from components to circuits to subsystems to applications are represented by theory, design and measurements. Advances in the synthesis and analysis of passive networks are welcome. Breakthroughs in semiconductor device technologies are also sought for applications that include ultra-low noise signal sources and high efficiency power amplifiers for communications, radar, metrology and industrial applications. The wireless technologies sessions, with an increased focus upon key applications, will encompass the major topics within the fast-moving mobile and broadcast communications area ?covering major mobile standards such as 3GPP, LTE+, WiMAX as well as the broadcast technologies for HD and 3D transmission. Other important wireless topics will include the increasingly important wireless power transfer technologies as well as telematics, personal area networks, medical applications and assisted living.

Emerging technologies represents an important part of this conference and these include RF MEMS, metamaterials, medical applications, sensor networks, cognitive radio and 4G communications. EuMC is a truly international melting pot for the exchange of ideas, as well as global networking. Both theorists and practitioners from academia, research institutes, national laboratories and industry come together each year to make this an exciting and stimulating event that is not to be missed. To this end, authors are encouraged to submit high quality papers. These will then go through a rigorous review process so that only real advancements in the fields are included in this prestigious conference.

Conference Highlights
The EuMC is the major European microwave event to keep up to date with recent achievements in the RF, microwave and millimetre-wave domain. The EuMC provides many opportunities to network and interact with international experts in a wide variety of specialities, attracting delegates with academic and industrial backgrounds. With more than 300 selected papers in about 60 oral and poster sessions, the conference represents an exciting forum for the presentation and discussion of the recent advances in the microwave area. Workshops will complement the programme. Proposals for workshop sessions should be submitted before February 12th 2011 to the Workshop Chairman.

EuMC Microwave Prize
The Technical Programme Committee of the EuMC and the EuMW Steering Committee will award the EuMC Microwave Prize of £4,000 to the author(s) of the best contributed paper to the 41st European Microwave Conference. The winning paper will be considered for publication in the International Journal of Microwave & Wireless Technologies.

EuMC Young Engineers Prizes
The Technical Programme Committee of the EuMC and the EuMW Steering Committee will award two EuMC Young Engineers Prizes of £2,000 each to young engineers or researchers who have presented an outstanding paper at the European Microwave Conference. To be eligible, candidates must (1) be under 30 years of age at date of award, (2) be the first author of the paper, (3) be the presenter of the paper in an oral or a poster session. The first author must have a major contribution in the work reported; the date of birth of the first author must be given and the major contribution must be described in an electronic statement signed by all other authors of the paper, and this statement must be submitted together with the original submission. The number of co-authors of the paper is not limited. The successful applicant may use part of the prize to fund attendance at the following year’s European Microwave Conference.

Reduced Fees and Special Grants
Reduced fees are implemented for students as well as senior persons aged 65 years or more. The European Microwave Association will also provide up to ten student grants consisting of £500 plus the reduced registration fee for EuMC. Applications should be sent to the EuMC Chairman by June 1st 2011. The European Microwave Association will also provide a number of grants for delegates coming from NIS countries, Russia and from low-income countries. The value of the grants is £500 plus the reduced registration fee for EuMC. Applications should be sent to the EuMC Chairman by June 1st 2011.
