CoMe 2011 - Second International Symposium on Compliant Mechanisms
Topics/Call fo Papers
Second International Symposium on Compliant Mechanisms
In 2011, it will be four years ago that Professors Suresh G.K. Ananthasuresh and Anupam Saxena organized the First International Symposium on Compliant Mechanisms in Bangalore, India. This was a great event that allowed us to reflect on our current and future research endeavors, and we feel it deserves to be followed up.
After an inquiry among past and possible participants, we went ahead in organizing the Second Symposium on Compliant Mechanisms (SCM2011). Since the First Symposium, a lot of progress has been made and we would like to provide a forum for putting all that in perspective, in a highly specialized and focussed symposium on fundamental issues and future research directions in compliant mechanisms research and design.
We have a low-cost type of symposium in mind, hopefully with zero registration fee, and free-of-charge open-access full-paper publication in an open access journal special issue.
[edit]Scope
We primarily solicite papers on fundamental issues and future research directions in compliant mechanisms research and design, on lessons learnt and challenges ahead, but also in-depth research articles, review articles and short communications will be considered. We solicit full papers (4-8 pages) on the following categories:
Papers discussing lessons learnt from the analysis, synthesis and application of compliant mechanisms
Papers discussing new hypotheses, ideas or concepts for new research directions
Papers on performance definition, calculation and measurement
Papers on modeling or simulation of compliant mechanisms
Any other topic matching the objectives of this workshop
Instructions to send the papers this website respecting the final submission dates, templates will be provided. All papers are subject to a thorough peer review process. In this one‐day symposium, researchers?from around the world?who have worked on it since the inception of this field will talk about their personal experiences and perspectives on the past, present, and future of compliant mechanisms. Many important aspects of compliant mechanisms will be covered in the symposium.
[edit]Who should attend
Researchers in multi‐disciplinary optimization, aerospace, automotive, smart materials, mechanisms, microsystems, sensors, precision machinery, and biomedical applications who want to get a new perspective to design and manufacture of mechanical elements in traditional design as well as those who use smart materials and systems of micro and nano size.

[edit]Proceedings
Accepted papers will be published in a special issue of the open access journal Mechanical Sciences. Page charges will be waived and authors will retain copyright. In addition CD Proceedings will be issued at the Symposium to the participants.
[edit]Organizers
The Organizing Committee will probably include Juan A Gallego Sanchez and Nima Tolou as Program Co-Chairs, and Just Herder as General Chair. If you are interested in joining the team, please let us know. The symposium will most likely be supported by IFToMM and possibly ASME.

[edit]Venue
The symposium will take place in the Netherlands at the historic city of Delft.
Famous for its white and blue pottery and "porcelain" tiles, it is the birthplace of painter Johannes Vermeer and place of the Dutch royal family's burial vault and Delft University of Technology. It is located in between Rotterdam and The Hague, about 10 minutes by car and 45 minutes by train from Schipol international airport.
